The Cloud Sofa: Alternative Wins
The most honest sentence in this pair: the IKEA sofa looks like a Cloud and lounges like a Cloud, but it does not feel like a Cloud. RH's sink-in comfort is feather and down wrapped around a foam core; IKEA's is foam and recycled polyester fiber. At $860 against $7,850, that's a trade most living rooms should take — as long as nobody pretends the foam is down.

Our verdict: the alternative wins — with the cloud-feel caveat stated plainly. This is a foam sofa that looks cloud-adjacent. It is not a down sofa, and this verdict doesn't pretend otherwise. What you get for one-ninth the price: the low, deep, loungey silhouette, washable covers you can actually live with, and modularity. What you give up: the sink-in down feel, and you accept cushion-slide and webbing wear as the price of admission.
Where the money goes
- The fill: down-and-feather wrap is the entire Cloud product — it's also the entire Cloud maintenance burden (fluffing, impressions, non-reversible cushions). Foam asks nothing of you and gives back a firmer sit.
- The covers: IKEA's washable, swappable covers are the practical winner here. RH's slipcovers are beautiful and, per owners, a project to keep beautiful.
- The delivery: RH runs 2–6 months with a separate delivery charge; IKEA delivers now. For a sofa you want this season, that gap matters as much as the price gap.
