Japanese Joinery, Without the Thuma Tax
Thuma built its name on the tool-free Japanese joinery bed — solid rubberwood, no hardware, $1,195 for a queen frame. FlexiSpot's Kana B6 runs the same playbook in the same wood for about $300 in a typical sale week. What's missing isn't the wood. It's the polish, and the safety net.

Our verdict: the alternative wins. Independent testers call the B6 genuinely silent and wobble-free, in the same rubberwood Thuma uses — part of Thuma's premium buys insurance and finish, not better wood. The honest catch: a visible headboard seam, Velcro instead of coated slats, and no lifetime warranty or 100-night trial behind it.
Where the money goes
- The wood is the same: both frames are solid rubberwood with Japanese joinery. As one owner put it, Thuma's premium is "a lot of cash to not even get hardwood" — neither bed is hardwood; both are rubberwood done well.
- The detailing: Thuma's slats are cushion-coated; FlexiSpot damps its slats with Velcro strips. Both are silent in independent testing — Thuma's solution is the more elegant one, and multi-year noise data on the newer B6 is still thin.
- The safety net: Thuma's lifetime warranty, 100-night trial and free returns are real value if you move often or hate risk. FlexiSpot publishes nothing comparable for this bed.
